Every year, Universal Studios Singapore celebrates the All Saints’ Eve (Halloween) by transforming into the scariest and spookiest place in Singapore. If this is your first time visit to visit Halloween Horror Nights 6, you will have to read the below guide for getting an amazing experience at our best Halloween event.
1. Choose your HHN6 nights very carefully
This year’s Halloween Horror Nights 6 will run over 16 nights (2 more nights than last year’s event), beginning earlier on 30 September 2016 and ending on 31 October 2016. This is also the first time this event will be held on Thursday through Saturday, instead of Friday till Sunday.
*Off Peak Days on 30 Sep, 6, 13, 20, 27, 30, 31 Oct 2016.
Time: 7.30pm - 12.30am.
^Peak Days on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 Oct 2016.
Time: 7.30pm - 1.30am.
Great news for you, since the haunted houses in the past HHN events usually had at least 2 hours of waiting time during peak days (on Fridays and Saturdays) for those with normal admission tickets. Hopefully with this event opening earlier, the crowds can also be dispersed over the additional nights.
Nevertheless, it is still better to plan your visit to HHN6 during the first week or at most, the second week if you want to experience all the “fun”. Last year, HHN5 had 4 haunted houses and 3 scare zones with 1 opening scaremony show. This year, Resorts World Sentosa has announced that there will be 5 haunted houses, 2 scare zones and 2 shows, including the return of the popular Jack’s Recurring Nightmare Circus.
(Haunted houses are enclosed areas with maze-like designs that guests are required to queue for entry and walk through.
Scare zones are outdoor areas where guests can have interactive experiences and explore at their own pace)
Imagine that you have to cover all these attractions in one sitting, plus the waiting time, within the same amount of allocated time. Not forgetting that like the previous years, selected rides will also be available during the HHN6. Going earlier before everyone is in the mood for Halloween means that you get to enjoy more “scares” and the attractions at a slower pace, with shorter waiting time. Given the high quality productions and HHN’s popularity over the years, surely there will still have much excitement even on a Thursday.
2. Choose the right number of nights
This is also an important aspect to consider, depending on which type of Halloween Horror Nights goer you are.
If you are just going for the event because your friends have dared you to, one night is probably aplenty for you.
If you like Halloween and horror films but it is not your whole life, you may want to consider two nights for first visit. Although if you follow our tips here, you may be able to cover everything in a night, a major attraction of Halloween Horror Night is photo – taking with the “scary” talents and people- watching. One night’s visit may not be enough for you to take enough photos or capture the mini details.
If you are a hardcore Halloween and horror movie fan, and this is the event you have been waiting for the whole year, it will be wise for you to splurge on the Frequent Fear Pass that entitles you to join in the fun till your heart’s content - 10 nights, 12 nights or all 16 nights. You may want to also check out the exclusive R.I.P tours or Behind-The-Scream tours (see pointer 6).
3. Save your moolahs and buy early
If you have not heard or seen this reminder before, you may want to commit this to memory. Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event, and you definitely need to pay for its admission. The usual Universal Studios Singapore (USS) day pass, annual and season pass do not grant you a complimentary pass to the Halloween Horror Nights event, even though they are both held in same location. Bear in mind that buying the admission for HNN does not entitle you to enter the USS in the day.
There are many bundle deals and passes for this event, and it is always best to buy your admission tickets or passes way in advance, especially if you know that you definitely want to attend this event. Even if you have hectic work schedule and are not able to firm up the date to visit, you can still get an open dated admission ticket during early bird promotion. This will save you much moolahs.
Besides, it may be necessary for the park to restrict the number of visitors for a quality experience, should the crowds be overwhelming. Thus, a wise move is to reserve your tickets as early as possible.
4. Check the weather forecast before you go
Singapore is in the Southeast Asia region, so we have rainy and sunny seasons. In September and October, Singapore is expected to be in rainy season.
Do check the weather forecast before going to the Halloween Horror Nights. If you know it is going to rain, you will be prepared to bring along an umbrella or rain poncho to prevent getting drenched in the rain.
If you forget to bring these, you can also buy them and other Halloween themed merchandise from HHN. In the event of rain, some of the scare zones may be closed and scare actors may not roam. Even though you may still queue for the haunted houses during the rain, please note that there may not be any shelters at the queue lines.
5. Eat before the horrors try to eat you
With only 5 – 6 hours to cover 9 zones, we advise that you have your dinner before entering the Halloween Horror Nights event. This way, you won’t need to scramble for dining options or wolf down your dinner in the shortest time, when you could be watching the show or exploring the haunted houses. Just outside the park, there are restaurants and even Malaysia-inspired Food Street for you to choose from. With more time to spend on dinner with your friends or family, you can have time to plan the route, a contingency plan (in case the queue is really long at one area) and discuss a safe code if one of you really needs a break from the thrilling experiences.
Want to save more money? You can find off-site dining options such as Seah Im Food Centre (just opposite Harbourfront Centre), which has the least expensive food in the vicinity. Another option is Kopitiam/ Food Republic at Vivocity, where you also can find a variety of food at reasonable pricing.
6. Treat, not trick yourself
If your schedule and budget permits, do take advantage of the Behind The Scream Tour with R.I.P tour. This will allow you to enter the park at 5pm (way before Halloween Horror Nights opening) and be seated in the best spot for the opening ceremony of HHN before 7.30pm. Plus you get to breeze through all the queues for the haunted houses, and even for selected rides. What’s more, you even get your own guide throughout the 2 tours to share information on the production and haunted houses. This will be awesome for those of you who totally love horror and production!
If you can’t afford the combo tours or arrive earlier, you can opt for the R.I.P tour that will still provide you with best spot to watch the opening ceremony, share the myth behind each haunted house and let you waltz through the lines easily.
Unless you can form your own group of 12 people, it is highly likely that you will be on the tours with other guests.
BTS Badge from Halloween Horror Nights 5
Behind The Scream Tour is only available on 1, 8, 15, 22, 28, 29, 30 October (5 to 6.30pm)
7. Consider to express your fear or not
If you can’t afford any of Behind The Screams Tours or R.I.P tours, you may want to add on HHN Express Pass to your normal admission Halloween Horror Nights ticket. Yes, these HHN Express passes are separate from Universal Studios Singapore day pass. Likewise, these passes also do not include admission to HHN, so you will still need to purchase HHN normal admission ticket to enter the park.
2 types of Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes available:
- Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass – this only applies for one use of Express line per haunted house per pass, and not applicable for rides.
- Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass PLUS – this applies to one use of Express line per haunted house and per ride per pass*
As these HHN Express Passes are priced based on demand, so we recommend you to obtain your HHN Express Pass as early as possible to save your moolahs and time.

8. Be Early or Stay Till Closing
Similar to the previous Halloween Horror Nights events, the park admission may commence at 7pm, though the exact time may varies depending on the park crowds at the gate.
Get to the event EARLY. Line up at the event entry turnstiles at least an hour before the opening hour (especially on peak days). Why do you need to be there so early? Sure, the skies are still bright and twilight has not fallen. If you want to be among the first few in line for the haunted houses or shows, make sure you enter the park early. Remember there are also those regular patrons who may have already practiced these tips, and who knows how many more visitors may read these tips.
What if you are not able to reach the park early?
- Well then you should be among the last visitors to depart – better than planning to arrive at 8pm and leave at 11pm. Usually the visitors will start to leave in the last hour, especially for those who arrive early.
- So at around 1.5 hours before closing time, check the haunted houses at the far end of the parks for the shortest wait time.
- Most likely you need to pick one haunted house to queue for.
- Please note that on peak days, if the queue is still very long at the popular haunted houses around this time, the park may close the lines early, so that everyone can leave on time.
9. Arrange your babysitting logistics early
Have kids but still desire to be scared out of your wits and enjoy a break from your usual routine? As this Halloween Horror Nights event is horror themed event and not suitable for kids under 13 years old, we recommend that you plan your babysitting arrangement ahead to avoid conflict of schedules and disappointment.
While there is a Kids Club located at Hard Rock Hotel and has extended its operating hours in 2015 for HHN5 visitors, there has not been any announcement made yet on RWS blog about Kids Club’s operating hours for HHN6. We sure hope that they will continue this practice! At least you can plan for a backup plan, if they are not able to provide this service this year.
10. Be on your best behavior
You may be very excited to visit Halloween Horror Nights event and be engaged in the various horrifying experiences. Keep in mind, all visitors to HHN event are not allowed to wear costumes, makeup or masks.
A gentle reminder that the hostess Lady Death is watching you, thus please be on your best behavior and refrain from doing any funny actions such as jumping the queue or harassing the actors. Everyone want to be able to leave the park safely and in one piece!
